RMS Sail Share Program

Rocky Mountain Sailing offers Colorado sailors the best sailing value anywhere.  With the RMS Sail Share Program you get to sail all season long through our fractional ownership program, saving thousands over the costs of owning your own boat.

RMS is unrivaled in safety, selection, convenience, and client satisfaction.

Choose Your Boat

Rocky Mountain Sailing features yachts by J-Boats, O'Day and Capri.   We have carefully chosen the yachts we use not only for their stunning good looks, but also for their reputation for quality and features that make them safe and easy to sail.

We maintain our boats ourselves and safety checks are performed daily. And, in keeping with RMS' unrelenting emphasis on safety, all of our yachts exceed U.S. Coast Guard and State of Colorado safety equipment requirements.

COMING SOON!  Breaking Away - Catalina 27

Bliss - O'Day 25 (sister ship)

This is our larger boat, which is set up for easy cruising. Sail handling can be done from the safety of the cockpit.  With wheel steering, an inboard diesel engine, and a full complement of on-board electronics, the O'day 25 is the perfect boat to begin earning qualifications for chartering.  A spacious cockpit and dual lifelines provide an added measure of comfort and security. The retractable Bimini top will keep the sun off on those hot summer days.

You and your guests will also love the spacious saloon with standing headroom and full head with sink and pressure water.  Dual settees provide a place to relax out of the sun and the galley is just right for whipping up some snacks. A CD/MP3 stereo system provides the tunes.   Bliss is perfect for entertaining. Whether sailing with friends and family, hosting out-of-town guests, or entertaining business associates and clients, you will be proud to bring them aboard your yacht.

Irie - J/22 (sister ship)

Our primary keelboat trainer is our J/22 Irie. The J/22 is not only a one-design racing boat, but it is one of the best sailing boats available. In fact, some J-boat fans say the 22 sails better than many of the larger J's.  With a fixed fin keel, the 22 is very stable and forgiving.  It heals in a breeze but there is no fear of tipping over in this boat.  Its slick hull shape and generous sailplan makes her fast and the tiller-controlled spade rudder makes her ultra responsive. These traits along with numerous sail controls make it easy for students to "feel" how the boat reacts to the helm and sail trim changes.  With a maximum of four students and one instructor, the seven-foot cockpit provides plenty of room.  And when the wind dies, you'll be backed up by a reliable and clean four-stroke outboard motor to get you back to the marina.

Choose Your Schedule

A full season of sailing is easy to plan with Rocky Mountain Sailing's flextime scheduling.  For one all-inclusive flat fee, you can choose 28 sails over the course of the season (sail about once a week).    A half-season of 14 sails is also available.

Weekend sailing is in high demand so all skippers should plan on sailing during the week for a good portion of the season.  Weekdays are quieter and more relaxing as the weekend-warrior powerboaters are not crowding the lake. Weekdays are premium sailing times.

Rocky Mountain Sailing does not pack its schedules back to back or force you to sail on days with too much or too little wind.  We provide our skippers with the opportunity to make up sails missed due to bad weather.  RMS wants you to get the maximum amount of time on the water as possible.   And, in keeping with our constant focus on safety, RMS does not want our skippers feeling pressured to go sailing on days when it may be wiser to stay at the dock. We will always work with our skippers to ensure they get to maximize their sailing time on the water.

Convenience

Sailing with Rocky Mountain Sailing is the safest, easiest and most cost effective way to get out sailing in Colorado.  Instead of spending hard-earned money on boat payments, insurance, maintenance, and storage costs, why not sail with RMS and let us do the work for you?  RMS skippers arrive at the marina and head out on the lake.  With Rocky Mountain Sailing, it's all play and no work!

Rocky Mountain Sailing is conveniently located at Chatfield Reservoir Marina in Littleton.  We're within a 30-minute drive of most of the Denver metro area.  Chatfield is the largest body of water that is close to Denver, and offers a spectacular view of the Front Range foothills.

Chatfield is the perfect size for a morning, afternoon or evening sail with plenty of time to relax in a quiet anchorage with your favorite refreshments.  There is a fee to enter Chatfield State Park, but an annual pass to all state parks is available for only $60.00.   Chatfield Marina offers a store, restaurant, ample parking, restrooms and showers.   All RMS yachts are located in 30-foot slips in the marina.  All you have to do is step on the dock and sail away!

Safety

Rocky Mountain Sailing is owned by a life-long sailor for whom safety is a first rule of seamanship.  All Rocky Mountain Sailing yachts are equipped with ample safety gear that exceeds U.S. Coast Guard and State of Colorado requirements. All of our yachts are company owned.  We personally check out each vessel daily to ensure that all equipment and systems are in proper working condition and that each is clean.  We also do all of our own maintenance and take pride that our vessels are always kept shipshape and ready for your enjoyment.   You will take pride in having use of a yacht that is kept in top condition.

All Rocky Mountain Sailing yachts carry $1,000,000 in liability coverage for the protection of you and your guests.

Value

Let's face it.  Owning a boat can be downright expensive.   Consider these ownership costs for new or nearly new boats, and you'll see why RMS is the best value in sailing.

 Costs of Owning a Boat
 25-foot Cruiser
 22-foot Racer
 Monthly Payment $800  $450
 Monthly Insurance $75 $ 50
 Monthly Storage & Mooring (12-month average)  $475 $450
 Monthly Maintenance $100 $ 75
 Total Monthly Costs
 $1450 $1025
 Annual Cost of Ownership
 $17,400 $12,300

You can see that owning your boat can cost thousands of dollars every year and that doesn't include your precious time that would be needed to clean, haul, maintain, and store your boat in the off season.

With Rocky Mountain Sailing, you avoid the costs and hassles of boat ownership and short-term rentals and get to enjoy immaculately maintained sailing yachts of the finest quality for as little as $20.00 per hour.  Unbelievably, this low cost includes Rocky Mountain Sailing's top notch cleaning, maintenance, refueling, and pump-out services.  Our policy of make-up sails for bad weather days saves you hundreds and ensures you're paying for sailing- not being thrashed by summer storms or burned by the hot sun on windless days.  RMS does not charge an initiation or membership fee and our fully refundable damage deposit is only $500.

All sailing sessions on our yachts allow for a maximum of 6 adults on Bliss (O'Day 25) and 4 adults on Irie (J/22). This means that you can share the cost of your ownership plan with friends or family.  PFDs are provided.

With Rocky Mountain Sailing, there are no hidden costs - only added value.
